This encaustic 3D, table top art piece is unique (just like you), earth friendly, and gorgeous from any angle. Encaustic is a wax-based paint made of beeswax, resin, and pigment. It is applied while in a molten state onto the wood and fused with a torch.
The image of the tree in this piece is textured. This large piece of birch bark stands on its own and is irregularly shaped. It measures approximately 12 inches tall, 8 inches wide, and 10 inches deep.
The bark used for this art was salvaged from a locally fallen tree. It is rare to find a piece of intact bark like the one used in this piece. The inside of the bark has been reinforced with wood glue which creates a glossy finish. The glue helps stabilize this piece of art, but it is still fragile.
Care of encaustic art:
Gently wipe every 3 months with a soft cotton cloth to dust and restore shine. Do not place in direct sunlight or store in extremely hot (hot car) or cold temperatures (garage in winter). Do not place it outside.
