This encaustic wall art is unique and earth friendly! Encaustic is a wax-based paint made of beeswax, resin, and pigment. It is applied while in a molten state onto the wood and fused with a torch.
The blue background is smooth while the tree is textured. The wood crate substrate is a bit mangled, as shown in the photos, which lends to the art's uniqueness. There are 3 parts of the crate being held together by the wires running through the top, middle, and bottom. I had difficulty getting the wires shown in the photos. This piece measures approximately 32 inches tall, 39 inches wide, and 1.25 inches deep. This piece does not have a wire hanger. It can be leaned against the wall or hung by having the top board rest on two nails, one on each end.
The wood crate used in this piece was salvaged from the Rochester Public Utility Company.
Care of encaustic art:
Gently wipe every 3 months with a soft cotton cloth to dust and restore shine. Do not place in direct sunlight or store in extremely hot (hot car) or cold temperatures (garage in winter). Do not place it outside.
