Encaustic is a wax-based paint made of beeswax, resin, and pigment. It is applied while in a molten state onto the substrate and fused with a torch. Wax sealer is then applied.
Each earring measures 0.75” x 0.75". They feature green background and eggs drawn in encaustic medium.
These earrings were created using a process I developed to create a substrate using salvaged items including chipboard, wood, or birch bark. The chipboard used for this pair of earrings was salvaged locally from local coffee shop Cafe Steam.
A grade 1 titanium post is secured to the back which is naturally hypoallergenic and strong. The post has a groove to help secure the silicone back.
