Encaustic is a wax-based paint made of beeswax, resin, and pigment. It is applied while in a molten state onto the substrate and fused with a torch. Wax sealer is then applied.
Each earring measures 0.5” in circumference. These earrings feature an abstract purple design with a white/translucent background, and light purple edge.
These earrings were created using a process I developed to create a substrate using salvaged items including chipboard, wood, or birch bark. The birch bark used for this pair of earrings was salvaged locally from fallen trees. Each piece has been cut, sanded, flattened, and reinforced with wood glue.
A grade 1 titanium post is secured to the back which is naturally hypoallergenic and strong. The post has a groove to help secure the silicone back.
