This encaustic 3D, table top art piece is unique (just like you), earth friendly, and gorgeous from any angle. Encaustic is a wax-based paint made of beeswax, resin, and pigment. It is applied while in a molten state onto the wood and fused with a torch.
The white background and brown vines on this large piece are smooth, while the yellow and orange abstract flowers are textured. The brown areas are parts of the wood that have not been painted over. This piece is irregularly shaped and measures approximately 21 inches tall, 15 inches wide, and 4.5 inches deep.
The wood used in this piece was salvaged from a local wood worker. The wood substrate has been reinforced with wood glue which creates a glossy finish on the bark.
Care of encaustic art:
Gently wipe every 3 months with a soft cotton cloth to dust and restore shine. Do not place in direct sunlight or store in extremely hot (hot car) or cold temperatures (garage in winter). Do not place it outside.
