Encaustic is a wax-based paint made of beeswax, resin, and pigment. It is applied while in a molten state onto the substrate and fused with a torch. Wax sealer is then applied.

These encaustic earrings were created using a process I developed to create a substrate using salvaged items including chipboard, wood, or birch bark. The chipboard used for this pair of earrings was sourced from a used coffee carrier from Caribou Coffee. The back has been reinforced with glue.
These are fine art encaustic earrings and should be handled carefully. They will not melt up to 150 degrees.
